Platelet activation
Colored SEM of platelets growing on a filter. This month's issue features two research articles on the regulation of platelet function. Séverin and colleagues show that SHIP1 (Src homology 2 domain-containing inositol 5-phosphatase 1) is required for platelet contractility, thrombus organization, and fibrin clot retraction (page 944). Dubois and colleagues show that thrombin generated through tissue factor is the major pathway leading to platelet activation (page 953).
